my project for the past six months

I've been incredibly busy and stressed for the past six months. But it's all been worth it...

I recently had the honor of designing LightBox, a 132-page, full-color coffee table book comprised entirely of photographs and essays by Binti Pamoja's members. The Binti Pamoja (Daughters United in Swahili) Center is a reproductive health and women's rights program for teenage girls in the Kibera slum of Nairobi Kenya. It has created a safe space for the girls to proactively affect change in their community. The young women have become proud leaders in the fight against HIV/AIDS, violence against women and unequal access to education, and they have learned how to take control over their reproductive health.

After a fantastic launch party in New York City last month, we're now asking for help in promoting and selling the book. All $45 of the purchase price goes to a scholarship fund that helps the girls attend high school and word-of-mouth is the best way to sell it.

So if you're a photographer or writer, please tell your colleagues. If you're in non-profit or development, please share with those you know will be interested. If you're in the media, please consider mentioning our book. If you're a blogger, please post a link on your site. And if you have the means, please buy a copy here.

Your support is incredibly appreciated. If you want any more info, please email me, visit the website (yup, I made that too...) or contact Emily Verellen, co-founder of Binti Pamoja, editor of LightBox, and my incredible partner in this amazing project.

With love and thanks,
Allyson
