french toast cake
Last week we had some friends over for a little mid-week dinner party, so I decided to make Elena's Cinnamon Swirl Cake which turned out quite tasty. I did wish that I'd made the middle layer of brown sugar, chocolate chips and walnuts a little higher up. Still, the taste was great, and sour cream made it very moist. But I'm pretty sure her beautifully illustrated recipe looked even better.

Yeah, my first baking of the cake, the fillings all sank down to the bottom. When I did again in the springform pan, I doubled the recipe and made the bottom layer of batter very uneven, but high up. The illo is actually exactly what it came out looking like.
I remember thinking that the chocolate chips were overkill, and my mom and Paul said, "Are you KIDDING?! That makes the whole cake!" :)
